PHOTOS,mom, few comforts or surprises

Few Comforts or Surprises is a photo essay look into my mother Prof. Ilse Johnson, she was a teacher of the arts for 58 years. An Immigrant to the US from Germany in 1929 she was raised in the German section of NYC into a working class family, her father was baker who used to practice his cake designs on the walls of the kitchen, her mother worked in the railroad yards for Penn Central as a brakemen.
She was active in the arts as a child much against her parents will she was accepted into Copper Union at age 17 for paintng. From there she went to study at Alfred in Ceramics she returned to NYC and worked at the  Henry Street Settlement where she met my father Phillip Johnson.  Soon they moved to Croton NY a community full of artist. .......  more text later
